Sex Education

It was during the thorough ultrasound scan. Our gynae measured the physical aspects of our baby. Head diameter, thigh bone length, arm bone length, brain size, lungs, all fingers accounted for and suddenly (gasp)...

there it was on the monitor! An appendage between little thighs. If it wasn't there, it would have meant otherwise. However, our gynae was confident. He used the trackball of the scanner to point to it, them drew a short line from it, and then labelled it "XY".

What's "XY"? Girl, boy or oh-oh?!?

Well, abnormalities aside, in human and mammals genetics a pair of two chromosomes, "X" & "Y" determine the sex of offsprings i.e. male or female. Males have a combination of both chromosome types or "XY", while females have two of the same type or "XX".

So, now we know. And so do you.

It's a B-O-Y!

We can now start looking for all tiny cute blue-colored things for our baby...

And lest not forget, a proper label, a name for our son!
